Fire
Engineering

Fire Engineering is the application of scientific and engineering principles, rules [Codes], and expert judgement based on an understanding of the phenomena and effects of fire and of the reaction and behaviour of people to fire, in order to protect people, property and the environment from the destructive effects of fire.

LABC Consult Building Control Surveyors and Fire Engineers all have extensive experience in the field of Fire Engineering and Fire Strategy design and assessment.

Each of our fire engineers has either a degree or PhD in engineering (or other similar qualification) combined with years of experience in dealing with varying building types including:

•  Retail/Shopping Centres
•  Railway Stations
•  Airports
•  Schools & Universities
•  Hospitals
•  Care Homes
•  Residential
•  Prisons
•  Sports Stadia
•  Industrial
•  Warehouses

Fire Engineering Techniques

In some cases designs can benefit from more detailed fire modelling to support or justify certain aspects of the design. Our fire engineers are experts in all types of fire modelling, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) smoke modelling, evacuation analysis, structural fire engineering and radiation analysis.

By taking a holistic approach to design of a building, LABC Consult Fire Engineers can provide the design team with the confidence to proceed in the knowledge that the chosen solution will win the approval of the Building Control and Fire authorities.
